Harness the strong ocean breeze and free yourself from a fixed mast. Start by mastering the wing on a windsurf board, and work your way up to sailing above the waves on a foil board. As the first windsurfing school in Western Canada (est. 1977), we know our way around a board, and wing surfing/foiling lessons are no different.
Eye on the Prize: Start with the basics, but with the goal of foiling!

Everything You Need to Know
Wing foiling is one of the newest and fastest watersports out there, and can be described as a blend of windsurfing, kiteboarding, and foiling all in one. You use a handheld inflatable wing (kind of like a mini sail) to catch the wind and propel yourself forward. Unlike windsurfing or sailing, the wing isn’t attached to the board, giving you more freedom to move. For wing foiling, board itself has a hydrofoil underneath, which lifts you above the water once you gain speed, creating a smooth, almost floating sensation. Our beginner lesson takes the foil out of the equation by starting you on a windsurfing board (flat on the water). We call this wing surfing! While there’s a bit of a learning curve, but once you’re up and riding, wing foiling feels like pure freedom on the water.
Experience is required since currents can carry beginners away, but don't worry! We offer lessons to help you get started, and once you're ready, you'll just need instructor approval to receive a rental code.
Wing foiling evolved from decades of innovation in windsurfing, kitesurfing, and foiling. Early handheld wings appeared in the 1980s, but the modern sport took off around 2018 thanks to advances in inflatable wing and hydrofoil technology. Brands like Duotone, Naish, and Slingshot helped bring it to life, with pioneers like Robby Naish pushing it into the spotlight.
Our wing and wingfoiling fleet is currently from North Action Sports - their gear is available to purchase direct to consumer!’
For consistent high winds for winging and wing foiling, we recommend heading out to Squamish. If you’re looking for a lesson (group or private), or an upwind drop, we recommend our friends at In Flow Adventures.
