Windsure has been Vancouver’s windsurfing home base since 1977 - and we’re still the only dedicated windsurfing school in Western Canada. Whether you're carving up waves or stepping on a board for the first time, we’ve got you covered with rentals, lessons, and good vibes.
Connect with Nature: Harness the wind, glide across the ocean, and feel the freedom.
Always Something New: From your first tack to advanced moves —there’s always room to grow.
Warning: It’s Addictive! Try it once, and you might just become obsessed (don’t say we didn’t warn you).
Not quite sailors, not quite surfers - we’re windsurfers, the best of both sports. Whether it’s your first time on a board or you’re looking to level up, our lessons are the perfect way to dive in.
Our Rental Pass (5 hours to share) and Season Pass (unlimited 2-hr rentals for you) options are perfect for stoked riders. As our best deals on rentals, they let you save big, ride often, and make the most of every windy day at Jericho Beach.
This 5-day intensive program is built for passionate riders looking to build serious skills in a fun, small-group setting.
We offer two cohorts: Youth (13–24) and Adult (25+). With just 5 participants per session, you’ll get focused coaching designed to take you from intermediate watersports enthusiast to approaching foiling safely. Check out our FAQ video for more information!
“My partner and I did the 2 hour windsurfing intro in July and had a blast! Being absolute beginners we weren't sure what to expect but we had plenty of practice and instruction, starting on the beach and eventually into the water. By the end of it, we were able to turn and keep steady on our boards. It was an awesome experience and we look forward to doing more lessons!”
“The staff at Windsure is amazing!! They have gone out of their way to help do extra teaching during rentals and helped my daughter find a new passion! Highly recommended. Having windsurfing as a new skill has built my daughter’s confidence leaps and bounds.”
“I've been here twice now for windsurfing lessons, and I've had a lovely experience both times. The instructors are knowledgeable and attentive, and offer lots of feedback on how to keep improving. I would definitely recommend them for learning how to windsurf 👍”
Everything You Need to Know
Windsurfing first caught wind in California back in the late '60s - a fun mashup of surfing and sailing that took off fast. Powered by wind for force and the rider for direction, the sport provides an exciting opportunity to try something traditional to the west coast and unique in nature.
It really depends on the person! We generally find that the Discovery Windsurfing I lesson is good for learning the basics of windsurfing and getting a taste of the sport. You might be ok here if you have sailing/other watersport experience or just catch on super quickly! We recommend that most people take Discover Windsurfing II to feel confident getting out on the water and renting independently. If you’re looking for more support, consider taking some private lessons or watching out for special clinics/demo events.
Experience is required since currents can carry beginners away, but don't worry! We offer lessons to help you get started, and once you've taken our Discover Windsurfing I & II courses, you should be good to get on the water independently.
Participants just need to weigh at least 80lbs to have enough body weight to lift up the sail!
Windsure was actually the first windsurfing school in Canada (est. 1977), and today, there are only a handful of schools across Canada, with the other largest being in Toronto! Windsurfing is the sport that started it all; the others got added over the decades to complement the original sport. Our founder fell in love with windsurfing and became a certified instructor, opening up Windsure in the very first years of the Jericho Sailing Centre’s operations. The rest is history!’
Windsurfing was co-invented in the late 1960s by Jim Drake, an aerospace engineer, and Hoyle Schweitzer, a surfer and businessman in California. Drake designed the board with a freely moving sail, and they patented it in 1968 under the name "Windsurfer." Schweitzer later helped bring the sport to the world, making windsurfing a global hit through the ’70s and ’80s.
Yes we do! If foiling on the windsurfer is your goal, first; COOL. Second, we recommend private lessons, or better yet, signing up for our Windsurfing Development Program. The weeklong program is your best bet at learning the basics of windfoiling and (hopefully!) getting your first flight. If you already know what you’re doing, we offer rentals as well.
